Drug Eluting Stents - Are we at the brink of a revolution?.
Pak J Cardiol Jan ;14(1):35-41.

Restenosis remains the most important factor that limits the longevity of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). A large variety of pharmacological and nonpharmacological measures have failed to effectively reduce the incidence of restenosis with the exception of brachytherapy. Drug eluting stents (DES) enable local delivery of high concentrations of compounds with antiproliferative (and antirestenotic) effects. Recent studies have shown a dramatic treatment benefit of DES on restenosis. This article will summarize and critically review the data on the subject.
