Grip Strength among Children with Down Syndrome: a Multi-Centered Special School Based Survey.

Objective: To evaluate the grip strength among special school going children with down syndrome as compared to age matched normally developed children. Study Design: Cross-sectional analytical survey Place and Duration of Study: The whole study was conducted for six months from July 2018 to December 2018. Settings were Amin Maktab & Dimensions Lahore. Material and Method: 58 subjects (Down syndrome 24 children, normally developed 34 children were included according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Grip strength of each child was measured with Jammar Dynamometer. Results: The mean score of children having Down syndrome was weak according to different age categories as compared to normally developed children. Mean score of grip strength was greater among age matched healthy children. The mean score among Down syndrome children was calculated to be 12.51 +- 2.58. Conclusion: Children with Down syndrome presented weak grip strength in both hands measured with Jammar Dynamometer.
