Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids are essential nutrients as their advantageous effects in coronary and autoimmune diseases, as well as in diabetes, have been proven from literature. In addition, their role in maintaining normal physiology of the eyes has been extensively discussed. We will explain the important dietary sources, features, properties, metabolism, and bioavailability of omega-3 PUPAs and their effects on Autism, Alzheimer 1s, Huntington, Parkinson 1s, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Dementia, Depression and Visual Health in this review. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and their mediators regulate several processes within the brain such as cell survival, neurotransmission, neuro-inflammation, mood and cognition. The diet having Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids may contribute to new therapeutic conceptualization for the prevention and management of neurological disorders.
