Frequency of Different Thyroid Disorders among Females Attending Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore.

Thyroid disorders are very common worldwide. In Pakistan too, there is a significant burden of thyroid diseases and they are prevalent mostly in women. OBJECTIVE: To determine the frequency of different thyroid disorders among females attending Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore. The sample of 100 patients diagnosed with thyroid disorders was collected through purposive sampling technique from March to June 2018. The data were collected through a pretested questionnaire, Microsoft Excel and SPSS version 21.0 was used for analysis. RESULTS: The results showed that only females were effected in study duration. 48% patients were having nodule or enlarged thyroid gland, 3% patients were having thyroid cancer. Overactive thyroid was found in 19% of the patients where as 30% patients were affected by underactive thyroid gland. 3% patients were underweight, 29% patients were normal, 46% patients were overweight and 22% people were obese. CONCLUSION: The study concluded that there was seen to be more females effected by thyroid disorders. Some thyroid disorders were more prevalent than the other ones and most of the patients included in the study were seen to be overweight and obese.
