The clinical significance of pre-operative serum CA-125 in Ovarian Cancer.
J Surg Pak Jan ;8(2):9-10.

The objective was to study the value of serum CA125 levels in the initial workup of women with ovarian cancers. Over a two year period (1 st January 1999- 31 st December 2000), preoperative serum CA125 level was analysed in 23 women with clinical suspicion and those with an adnexal mass diagnosed as ovarian malignancy postoperatively on histopathology at Lady Dufferin Hospital, Karachi. Among patients with an age range 13-72 years (mean: 44 years.) 82 % had epithelial ovarian cancer. CA 125 was raised in 80 % of stage 1, 78% of stage 111 and 100 stage l V diseases. We therefore recommend preoperative serum CA 125 estimate in all cases of suspicious adnexal masses.
