Prevalence of depression in asthmatic females of Lahore. Pakistan.

Objective: To assess the prevalence of depression in asthmatic females of Lahore. Hamilton depression scale will be used to assess the depression. Methodology: This observational study was conducted at Department of Pulmonology, Mayo Hospital, Lahore for 6 months. Random sampling technique was used. Demographic details were obtained. Questionnaire was filled. A Sample size was estimated as 84 females and mean age was 40.86+-4.76 years. Statistical analysis was done by using SPSS version 16.0. Results: Among asthmatic patients 41(56.9%) felt depressed (p=0.02), indicates strong association between feeling depressed for being asthmatic. Conclusion: The prevalence of depression among asthmatic females was 56.9%. There was positive association between depression and asthma in females living in Lahore.
