Patients and methods: 160 children between 1-12 years of age, of either sex, who presented with abnormalities of tone, movement and posture, were included. On the basis of history, physical examination and investigations they were divided into cerebral palsy and non-cerebral palsy disorders. Amongst spastic CP, quadriplegia was the most common type followed by diplegia, hemiplegia and mixed CP. Birth asphyxia 36% (n=43) was the major contributor to CP followed by meningoencephalitis 34% (n=41), prematurity and low birth weight 8% (n=10).
