The impact of inhaled corticosteroids on Asthma morbidity and mortality.
Pak J Chest Med Jan ;9(4):3-6.

300 million people worldwide have asthma. If only one medication were to be available to help them control their asthma, there is little doubt that that medication would be an inhaled steroid. Since their introduction over 30 years ago, inhaled steroids have transformed life for children and adults worldwide and there is ample evidence of reduction in both morbidity and mortality. Other modalities of treatment have been introduced over the last 20 years and those have found a place as adjunctive therapies or they have permitted better control of asthma using lower doses of inhaled steroids. None of the new treatments however have replaced inhaled steroids.
