Refractive surgical procedures like Radial Keratotomy and Excimer Laser photorefractive keratectomy have gained increased popularity in ophthalmology. These procedures are safe and effective but like any surgical procedure they do have few complications. Predictability, glare, stability of refractive error, healing problems, Corneal haze and infections are well known side effects Exposure to Optical Radiations including Ultraviolet, visible and infrared rays are associated with photokeratitis, Senile Keratosis, degenerative conditions like Pinguecula and Pterygium, Cataract and Macular Degeneration. Besides these natural optical radiations, artificial light used in indirect Ophthalmoscopy and operating Microscope do have their peculiar hazards. Use of glasses in the form of spectacles, filters and IOL can prevent to some extent these and other environmental hazards like foreign bodies, allergies and infections.
