Primary non-hodgkin`s lymphoma of bone (PNHLB): An experience of 13 cases.
Pak J Pathol Jan ;12(4):14-7.

This study relates to our experience in the diagnosis and treatment of Primary Non-Hodgkin`s lymphoma of bone (PNHLB)-one of the rare clinical varieties of lymphoma. The purpose of this study is to assess the pattern of incidence of primary non-hodgkin`s lymphoma of bone and its response to treatment in our population. From Jan 1996 to Apr 2002, 13 patients with primary nonhodgkin`s lymphoma of bone were diagnosed, treated and reviewed at Oncology Department, Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi. All patients had pathological subclass of Diffuse Large Cell Lymphoma with a male preponderance. Two cases had spinal disease and 1 had bilateral involvement of shaft of femur. Common presenting complaints were bone pain or mass on the involved site. Three had pathological fractures. Stage IE was present in 9 cases whereas 4 had stage IV disease. Except 4 patients all were treated with combined modality (CT+RT). Seven (53.84%) showed complete regression of the disease, 4(30.76%) had partial response and disease was non-responsive to treatment in 1(7.69%). One patient died of progressive disease and 3/13 were lost to follow up. It is concluded that combined modality treatment of primary non-hodgkin`s lymphoma gives better response rates than chemotherapy alone.
