Pak J Pathol Jan ;12(2):42-5.

HIV can be easily inactivated by autoclaving, in hot air oven, with Wight and with is infectants like, 2% glutaraldehyde, hypochlorite solution, alcohols, and hydrogen peroxide. It can survive at room temperature and at 37°C for several days but is infectious only in the living cells. The sexual transmission of infection is common, and can affect homosexuals, bisexuals as well as heterosexuals. Polygamy, receptive anal intercourse, presence of sexually transmitted disease (STD) and genital trauma are the main factors, which increase the chances of transmission. Transmission through blood, blood products, contaminated needles, syringes and organ transplants have been reported but with the screening for HIV, the risk of infection, following transfusions and transplants has been substantially reduced.
