Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis of Knee Joint.

A 10 years old girl reported in surgical outdoor with history of persistent pain and swelling of her right knee extending to the lower thigh anteriorly. Clinical examination revealed diffuse swelling extending to the quadriceps region anteriorly. It was mildly tender with restriction of movements at her right knee joint. Patellar tap was negative X-ray right knee showed soft tissue swelling without involvement of bone. Synovial biopsy revealed brownish coloured tissue with bleeding. Histopathological report showed "pigmented villonodular synovitis". Total synovectomy was performed and the whole synovium from the joint and the quadriceps region was removed. Postoperative recovery was slow because of the effusion due to blood vessels. She was referred to radiotherapy department for further management.
