Patients perception knowledge, attitude and practices regarding dental caries in Sialkot and Hyderabad, Pakistan.

Objective: To evaluate the patient's knowledge, attitude and practice regarding dental carries in teaching hospitals of Sialkot and Hyderabad Pakistan. Methodology: This comparative, cross sectional study was carried out in Sialkot and Hyderabad during 2020. A total of 500 dental patients were enrolled via random sampling technique. A series of questions were asked based on objective and the data were recorded. Results: Male patients were more as compared to female. Maximum numbers of patients are between 41 to 54 years of age in both cities. More than 60% patients had insufficient knowledge regarding sources of caries, basic information and the effects of not brushing their teeth. Maximum numbers of patients knew about the relationship of sugary material in relation to caries. Very low attitude and practices of patients were found regarding dental caries. More than 70% of the patients did not know the importance of dental visits and the consequences of caries. Conclusion: Very low level of KAP was found in dental patients among both cities regarding dental caries. There should be proper counseling to dental patients for oral heath including dental caries and their prevention technique. A series of seminars may be arranged for proper awareness.
