Review of sixty three patients under-going Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) ligation without chest drain weighing 1.7-6 KG.
Pak Paed J Jan ;25(2):59-61.

sixty three patients with isolated Patent Ductus Arteriosus were admitted between hoc. 1988 and Sep. 2001 at the Children`s Hospital & The Institute of Child Health, Lahore. There were 21 males (33%) and 42 females (66%) weighing from 1.7 - 6 Kg aged between 22 days to 14 months. They were operated and chest was closed in all of them without chest drain. Two patients were ventilated preoperatively in ICU and four patients had congenital rubella syndrome` There was one mortality. None of the patients required chest intubation. As this is a significant number of consecutive patients it can be suggested that patients with PDA can be operated and chest can be closed without chest dram.
