Pak J Surg Jan ;16(3):29-32.

Venous leg ulcers are not very common in our country. 62 patients were studied from March 94 to March 99. The results show the prevalence of leg ulcers to be 0.001 of all the out patients attendance. Mostly these patients were in 4th, 5th and 6th decades of life with male to female ratio of 2.6:1. Seventy one percent of venous ulcers were due to varicose vein or incompetent perforators. In females deep vein thrombosis was the major cause (55.56%) whereas in males varicose veins were the predominant cause (84.09%). Results of saline dressings and hydrocolloid dressings were almost the same, saline dressings being cheaper and readily available. Recurrence is more common in ulcers due to deep vein thrombosis (61.12%) as compared to varicose vein ulcers.
