Evaluation of some heavy metals (Ni, Pb, Cu, Cd, Zn AND Cr) from drinking water of Faisalabad city.

OBJECTIVES: Purpose of the work is to determine the amount of some heavy metals in drinking water so as to lay a basis for controlling their quantities. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Different samples of drinking water including ground water and local municipal water supply were taken from 19 different locations, Chiniot water and canal water taken as control, History of pipes of each sample including age, depth and breadth of pipes was noted and samples were analyzed for the determination of pH, electric conductivity, total soluble salts and heavy metals. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Cu Zn and pH values were within safe limits but Ni, Pb, Cd, Cr and TSS values were unsafe in some drinking water samples.
