Awareness of Menopause and Pattern of Menopausal Symptoms in HRT Clinic.

One hundred women attending a recently set up HRT clinic at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre were interviewed by the author and her team personally by a questionnaire. The intention was to find out the awareness and common symptomatology of climacteric. Seventy nine women attending the clinic. were uneducated and from low socio-economic class while 21 were educated Only 10 (57%) out of 21 educated and 34 (43%) among 79 uneducated women were aware of menopause and its implications. The commonest symtoms were body aches (86%), hot flushes (86%), irritability (65%) palpitations (61%) and vaginal discharge (49%). Loss of libido and vaginal dryness were the least of all complaints, 14% and 11% respectively. The preliminary results are helpful in building up future strategies for H.R.T clinic.
