An Open Non-Comparative Study of Efficacy and Safety of Single dose oral Fluconazole 150 Mg Capsule in the treatment of Vaginal Candidiasis.

A total of one hundred and sixty five women, 105 from gynaecology outpatient department, Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi and 60 from Women Clinic and Fertility Advisory Centre, Islamabad were included in this open non-comparative study to assess the efficacy and safety of single dose oral fuconazole therapy for vulvovag final candidiasis 64 patient received the therapy and 39 cases were followed till short term visit (7-10 days). The period of study was 12 months from Ist December 1993 to 30th November 1994. Mean age of women was 32 years (range 19-60 years). Average duration of complaints was 26 weeks (1 week to 3 years). At short term follow up clinical improvement after fuconazole therapy was seen in 89.7% while complete clinical cure was found in 10.2%, whereas mycological cure rate was 79.4%. At long term follow up visit, 60% cases were clinically cured 40% slowed clinical improvement and mycological eradication was found in 91.4% cases. Side effects were mild in nature and were found in 14.2% cases.
