Vaginal Birth after Cesarean Section: A Three Year Study.
Pak J Obstet Gynaecol Jan ;10(3):18-21.

The incidence of Cesarean section has been increasing for the last two to three decades. The primary reason for this rise in Cesarean section rate (CSR) is the performance of elective repeat sections. High CSR has a negative impact on maternal health and obstetric care costs. Hence prospective study over three year period was conducted in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Unit-1 of Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi to critically evaluate the safety and feto-maternal outcome of vaginal birth following prior lower segment Cesarean (LSCS). A total of 153 cases were selected for trial of vaginal delivery after LSCS. Main outcome measures included vaginal birth, repeat LSCS, complications, morbidity, hospital stay and fetal outcome. We observed that trial of labor was safe in properly selected patients. Vaginal birth has less complications, morbidity, shorter hospital stay and is cost effective over repeat LSCS without compromising neontal outcome.
