Causes of Postmenopausal Bleeding.

A prospective study to find out the various causes of postmenopausal bleeding was conducted at Lady Willingdon Hospital, Lahore from June, 1995 through June, 1997. A total of 180patients were included in this study. The results were analyzed and thev showed a high incidence of carcinoma of cervix i.e. 25.55%. Other conditions found were endometritis (16.66%), carcinoma of endometrium (1-1.44%), adenomatous hyperplasia (8.33%), and cystic hyperplasia (7.77%). Cases with undetermined etiology were 5.55%. Proliferative phase endometrium was noted in 3.88% cases, secretory phase endometrium in 3.33%, mucous and blood clots again in 3.33% cases, pyometra in 2.22% cases and cervical and endometrial polyp in 2.22% cases. Endometritis was noted in 1.11% patients and postcoital tear was the cause of bleeding in one case 0.55%.
