Management of Cancer Pain.

Pain is one of the most common symptoms in cancer patients. It is frequently seen in carcinoma oesophagus, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, carcinoma of the head of pancreas and many other malignant tumours. The patient who is otherwise psychologically upset due to his dreadful disease, is made worse with pains. The management of these patients require some special measures and it is important to begin with determination of the cause of pain. Then depending upon the mechanisms of the pain, the most appropriate treatment can be administered. This review will consider the major principles in the treatment of cancer pain.
