The etiology, symptomatology and surgical outcome in 60 cases of chronic Subdural Hematoma.

60 cases of chronic subdural hematoma were studied from April 1994 to April 1998 in the Neurosurgery Department of Postgraduate Medical Institute, Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar to review the etiology, clinical presentation and surgical outcome. The patients comprised of 48 male and 12 female. The age ranged from 25 to 80 years. The common cause was head injury (54 cases). The most common symptoms were headache (22 cases), hemiparesis (26 cases) and unconsciousness of gradual onset (36 cases). The exact diagnosis was made with CT scan. The results of surgical management with two burr hole craniotomy were excellent.
