Hydatidiform Mole with normal Pregnancy - Partial Mole.

A 30 year old third gravida reported at 17 weeks of gestation with increasing edema of ankles and dull headache. On examination she had high blood pressure and fundal height corresponding to 32 weeks gestation. Ultrasound examination revealed an active fetus biparietal diameter age 17 weeks 4 days + 9 days with a large spongiform mass occupying most of the uterine cavity. Radiologist confirmed the diagnosis of active fetus with hydatidiform mole. Her b-HCG was raised to 16,300 mIU/ml. Patient was admitted and termination of pregnancy was planned. In hospital during induction, patient expelled a dead fetus of about 16 weeks gestation. Rest of the molar tissue along with placenta was removed under general anesthesia. The diagnosis of partial mole was later on confirmed on histopathological examination of molar tissue. Karyotyping was also done and it was triploid (69 XXX).
