The diaphragm in Roentgenology of the chest in asymptomatic population.

Chest x-rays PA view of two thousand asymptomatic adults were analyzed to look for various variants of diaphragm. It was observed that right hemidiaphragm was higher in 95%, left hemidiaphragm was higher in 3.2% and both hemidiaphragms were at equal level in 1.3% of cases. Gas bubble under left hemidiaphragm was visible in 1820 (91%) cases in remaining 180 (90%), it was not visible mean. Height of diaphragmatic curve was 2-5 cm in 45% cases on right side and 47% cases on left side. Height less than 1 cm indicated flattening and was seen in 5% on right side and 4% on left side. Other normal variants such as polyarcuation, localized eventuation and dromedary humps were seen in fewer cases.
