Micturating Cystourethrogram in evaluation of children with symptomatic urinary tract infection.

Purpose: To assess and define the radiological finding on micturating cystourethrogram (MCUG) in children with symptomatic urinary tract diseases. Materials and Method: The study includes symptomatic children, both male and female, who were referred to the radiology department for the investigation of urinary tract diseases. All the requests are reviewed by the radiologist and MCUG is done among other investigation like ultrasound examination. Reports are reviewed and abnormal findings, identified and characterized. Results: The study included 150 patients with age range from infancy to 8 years, including both males and females. Most common finding was vesicoureteric reflux found in 65% of the patients. Among other abnormalities were 25% posterior urethral valves, 14% bladder diverticulae, 8% neurogenic bladder, 5% abnormalities of anterior urethra and a utrical cyst. Conclusion: Micturating cystourethrography is a fundamental investigation to identify and characterize the abnormalities in symptomatic children with urinary tract infections.
