A study on the relationship of Carbohydrate Binding Protein (HPA Lectin) on colorectal carcinoma.
Pak Postgrad Med J Jan ;11(2):63-6.

Colorectal carcinoma is the second most common cancer. In cancer there are changes in structure and function of cellular carbohydrates. The aim of this study was to investigate the significance of altered glycosylation by using lectin immunohistochemistry. In this retrospective study conducted 1998, one hundred and seventy seven patients with colorectal carcinoma were included. Formalin fixed paraffin wax bedded sections of malignant tissue were examined for binding with Helix Pomatia (HPA) lectin. Survival showed that HPA binding was associated with poor survival of patients.
