Experience of Colorectal Carcinoma at Services Hospital, Lahore.

A prospective study of thirty patients of colorectal malignancy was conducted from July, 1997 to December, 1999, in Surgical Unit-III, Services Hospital, Lahore. It affected about 1% of the patients presenting with surgical problems of the gastro-intestinal tract. The commonest presentations were altered bowel habit % and bleeding per rectum % followed large gut obstruction % 45% of patients in our study were less than 40 years old. The incidence of colo-rectal carcinoma is increasing in this part of the world specially in younger age group. About 42% of the patients presented with advanced disease. A plan should be charted out for the early diagnosis and treatment to ensure better prognosis and survival of the patients.
