Effects of vegetable oil on plasma lipids and lipoproteins in patients with coronary artery disease.
Pak J Pathol Jan ;11(2):8-11.

The study was conducted on 70 male patient (49.8±1) with coronary artery disease (CAD), admitted for coronary angiography. On the basis of answer to the question about history of use of vegetable oil, patients were divided into two groups (a) having positive history of use of vegetable oil (n=48), (b) having negative history of use of vegetable oil (n=22) after diagnosis of CAD. Group-A showed significant decrease of total serum cholesterol (p<0.02), LDL (p<0.05) and LDL-C (p<0.05) as compared to group-B. When both group were compared with control subjects (n=20), both group showed significant difference in lipids and lipoproteins levels except total cholesterol and LDL-C (nonsignificant) in group-A. While triglycerides, LDL, VLDL, VLDL-C, THDL-C, HDL3-C and HDL2-C levels were significantly different in both groups as compared to controls. Study concluded that use of vegetable oil has some beneficial effects on lipids and lipoproteins. However this effect was not up to the mark that it normalizes the atherogenic pattern of lipids and lipoproteins.
