Study of blood group in patients with primary Glaucomas.

Objective: To study the frequency and association of any particular blood group in patients with primary glaucoma. Methods: A hospital-based study of blood group in Primary glaucoma patients was carried out at the Department of Ophthalmology, Chandka Medical College Larkana, during the period of 1991-1995. Total number of patients was 1630. Results: Among them 936 were finale and 694 female. 1240 patients were diagnosed as primary open angle glaucoma, 812 male and 266 female. 390 patients were having primary angle closure glaucoma, 266 female and 124 male. Blood group O positive was more frequently seen in patients with primary open angle glaucoma (38%), B positive (30%), A positive (27%), AB positive (3%). Blood group A positive was more frequently seen inpatients with primary angle closure glaucoma (35%), O positive (33%), B positive (29%) AB positive (3%). Conclusion: In this hospital based descriptive study blood group O positive was frequently seen in patients with primary open angle glaucoma and A positive was frequently seen in primary angle closure glaucoma.
