Malaria prevalence in Sindh.

Malaria us global treat to health, social and economic development. The objective of study was to see prevalence of malaria parasites and species proportion through malaria surveillance data under malaria control program Sindh. During the three years (1999-2001) blood smears were collected from febrile cases or suspected malaria in all age groups. The total slides reviewed were 1738189 of which positive for malarial parasites were 53758(3.1%). Plasmodium vivax were 22763 (42%) and P. falciparum were 30995(58%) while slide positivity rate was 3.1%, 3.3%, and 2.7% in 1999, 2000 and 2001 respectively.
