Changes in serum Lipids and Lipoproteins in patients with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis.
Med Channel Jan ;10(2):43-6.

Primary glomerular diseases are accompanied almost invariably by the changes of the lipids and lipoproteins, which became an important risk factor for accelerated atherosclerosis. This study investigated serum lipids and lipoproteins in patients with biopsy-proven focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). Twenty patients were selected and their sermon triacylglycerols (TAGs), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-c), low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-c), very low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (VLDL-c) and ratio between LDL-c and HDL-c were compared with healthy controls. The results show a significant high (P<0.001) values of TAGs, TC, LDL-c, VLDL-c and the ratio of LDL-c vs HDL-c, with a significant low values of HDL-c (P<0.001) in patients with FSGS, when compared to control subjects. It is concluded that raised lipids and lipoproteins is a invariable feature in patients with biopsy-proven FSGS.
