Serum levels of prolactin and female infertility.
Pak J Pathol Jan ;10(4):12-4.

Serum Prolactin levels were measured in 30 infertile female patients and 20 matched controls. The serum prolactin levels compared to controls were significantly high (p <0.03). Four infertile patients (13.2%) showed hyperprolactinemia. Three of these presented with menstrual disturbances and glactorrhoea. The role of hyperprolactinemia in female infertility is being highlighted. Hyperprolactinemia is a common cause of gonadal dysfunction in women and to lesser extent in men. Women with hyperprolactinemia can present in a number of ways i.e. with galactorrhoea, secondary amenorrhoea, oligomenorrhea, any menstrual disorder or infertility. This study was undertaken to see the relationship between increased serum prolactin levels, galactorrhoea and female infertility in this part of the world.
