Hydroxyapatite-coated cementless total knee prosthesis.
J Surg Jan ;27(1):46-51.

30 knees in 29 OA cases were replaced with a Delta series 7000 cruciate retaining, HA-coated total knee system (Stryker Howmedia Osteonics) from October 1999 at University of Yamanashi Hospital, Yamanashi prefecture, Japan. 22 patients were women and 8 were men. The average age at the operation was 67 years (range 40-75 years). The average length of follow up period was two years. Parameters studied were radiolucent lines in zones 2, 6 and 4 of femoral component and zones 1, 5,6,7 and 4 of tibial component, FTA, and Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score. The radiographic findings revealed no radiolucent lines at two year follow up and progressive new-bone formation including cancellous condensation and cortical hypertrophy throughout all the zones in both tibia and femur was observed. Osteolysis at the distal femur did not occur. The average preoperative FTA angle (189.13± 8.1) showed significant difference (p<0.05) from postoperative FTA (175.13±3.66); which was within normal limits. The pain improved markedly after surgery increasing mobility in all patients, which is the main goal of the treatment. The JOA scores increased significantly (p<0.05) from an average of 45.96 ± 12.0 preoperatively to 81.55 ± 7.4 postoperatively on their latest follow up at an average of two year after surgery. The patients were satisfied from the treatment outcome and no loosening was seen until two year postoperative.
