Ultrasound guided percutaneous aspiration of a pancreatic pseudocyst.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the role of ultrasound guidance in percutaneous external drainage of pancreatic pseudocyst with the help of a catheter SETTING : Radiology department of the Khyber teaching hospital Peshawar Pakistan. One year prospective study January 2002 to January 2003. METHODS : 10 Patients who were already diagnosed cases of pancreatic pseudocysts were selected for this percutaneous external drainage study under ultrasound guidance with the help of a catheter. RESULTS : This treatment modality is not common in our setup. The result of the study is excellent and there were only minimal complications in two patients only. CONCLUSION : This procedure is minimally invasive, quick, safe, result oriented, successful, bedside and inexpensive technique which may be performed as an out door patients technique. This study provides very good results.
