Tuberculous lymphadenopathy and DOTS at D.H.Q hospital Gujranwala.

Objective: To find out the age, sex and site of tuberculous lymphadenopathy and the role of DOTS in the treatment outcome. Design: Single centre prospective study. Setting: The study was conducted at D.H.Q. Hospital Gujranwala over a period of 30 months w.e.f 01-10-2000 to 31-3-2003. Subjects: Ninety Four patients who were suffering from tuberculous lymphadenopathy were registered during study period and they completed 8 months of treatment under DOTS programs. Results: Out of 94 patients 65(69%) were female and 29 (31 %) male. Regarding age 52 (55.3%) patients belonged to 11-20 years of age Cervical Lymphadenopathy was seen in 79(84%) patients followed by axilla 8 (8.5%), Hilum 3 (3.1 %), Mediastinum 3 (3.1 %), and inguinal 1 (1.06%). Eighty two (87%) patients completed their full course of treatment while 10 (10.^%) defaulted.
