Form and Content of Symptoms in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
Pak J Neurol Jan ;3(2):40-2.

Obsessive compulsive disorder is one of the least understood, uncommonly diagnosed and most disabling of the anxiety disorders. There are few reports in the literature describing the form and content of obsessional symptoms. Eighty-four patients attending the psychiatry out door of Mayo Hospital Lahore who fulfilled the DSM-III diagnostic criteria for obsessive compulsive disorder were included in the study. Results showed that majority of patients presented with obsessional fears and thoughts. Washing rituals were the commonest compulsions. Content of symptoms mainly revolved around religion and dirt and contamination. It is suggested that the background of the individual is very important in determining the form and content of obsessional symptoms.
