Experience of Delorme`s procedure for complete rectal prolapse.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of Delorme`s procedure for complete rectal prolapse, and to find out the incidence of recurrence following the primary and subsequent repairs. Design & Duration: Descriptive, prospective study from 1993 to 2003. Setting: Department of Surgery, Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar. Methodology: The data of 34 consecutive patients that underwent the Delorme`s procedure for full-thickness rectal prolapse was collected and analyzed. Results: The procedure was successful in 31 (91.2%) patients, but failed in three (8.8%) cases, as they developed recurrence of the prolapse. There was no mortality in this study. Conclusion: The Delorme`s procedure is a simple operation with sastisfactory functional results, and can be considered for patients of all ages.
