Chronic unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia: Approach to patient.
Med Today Jan ;1(3):88-90.

Patients with chronic, fluctuant jaundice running in families occasionally present to general physicians. Liver biochemistry is usually normal except for raised indirect bilirubin. Such patients should be suspected for Gilbert`s syndrome. Its definitive diagnosis can be made on Polymerase chain reaction that shows genetic polymorphism. Gilbert syndrome is a benign condition which should be clearly explained to the patient.
