Resistance to Penicillins and b-lactamase production clinical isolates of Staphylococcus Aureus.
Med Channel Jan ;11(2):54-7.

More than I00 clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus were collected from different hospitals in Karachi and Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MICs) of different group antibiotics were determined by agar dilution method. The results show high resistance against majority of these antibiotics with a significant incr ease in the MICs. The lowest rate of resistance among 1I0 clinical isolates of aureus was noticed against Amoxycillin-clavulanate (39 %) and the highest against penicillin V (100%). Over all the rate of resistance was very high. For the detection of b-lactamase iodometric method was used. Eighty per cent (80%) strains produced b-lactamase.
