Determination of various blood groups and RH - factor in PAF personnel at Malir.

OBJECTIVE: The study was carried out at PAF Base Malir on determination of various blood groups to determine the frequency of different blood groups in PAF personnel to help in blood transfusion scrvices to PAF personnel at Malir DURATION AND PLACE OF STUDY: From Jan 2004 to Dec 2004 at Medical Squadron PAF Base Malir. METHODS AND SUBJECT: Blood grouping was carried for a period of one year from Jan 2004 to Dec 2004 total 3664 personnel were checked for blood grouping ABO & Rh factors. Serving Officers JCOs Airmen and Civilians were included in study. Officers 210 (5.73%) JCOs 180 (4.91%) Airmen 2484 (67.8%) Civilians 790(21.56%). The individuals were categorized as per their blood groups ie A, B, AB, 0 & Rh –ve, Rh +ve. RESULTS: Total 3664 personnel of PAF were checked for blood grouping. Out of which blood group A 52(1.4%) -ye 696 (18.99%) +ve, B 1152 +ve (31.44%) –ve 78 (2.13%) AB 354 +ve (9.66%) –ve 32 (0.87%) O 1208(32.96%) +ve 92 (0.87%) -ve. The common blood group is 0 and rare blood group is AB. CONCLUSION: The dominant blood group was 0 and Next Blood group B, A & AB subsequent Rh+ve 3410 (93.06%) and Rh –ve 254 (6.93%). Rhesus group is dominant +ve and rare is -ve. The percentage and availability are kept on record for any time required for Mass casualties or as when required for any need.
