Immunoglobulin deposition in renal biopsies of Nephrotic syndrome in children.
Med Channel Jan ;11(1):19-21.

The aim of this study was to observe the hi stopathological pattern and immunoglobulin deposition in renal biopsies. PATIENTS & METHODS : The material for study consisted of paraffin blocks of percutaneous renal biopsies of fifty selected cases of children clinically diagnosed as nephrotic syndrome. These were examined histologically in the department of pathology, Basic Medical Sciences Institute, Jinnah postgraduate Medical centre, Karachi, during January I992 to May 1994. RESULTS: On immuno-peroxidase staining out of 24 cases Mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis, 06 cases showed glomerular deposition of IgG, 04 cases showed deposition of IgM and 02 cases combination of IgG and IgM. Out of 10 cases of memberanous glomerulonephritis, 04 cases showed glomerrular deposition of IgG and 02 cases showed combination of IgG and IgM. None of the 08 cases of Focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis showed any immunoglobulin deposition. Out of 04 cases of Minimal change disease, 02 cases showed IgM deposition in glomeruli. Out of 04 cases of membrano–proliferative glomerulonephritis, only one case showed glomerular deposition of IgG and 01 case combination deposits of IgG and IgM. CONCLUSION: It is concluded that immunoglobulin deposition in glomeruli should be seen in renal biopsies, as these help in the diagnosis and progression of diseases like minimal change disease, early membranous glomerulonephritis, IgA nephropathy and typing of membrano – proliferative glomerulonephritis.
