Study of the diagnostic value of Ultrasonography in blunt abdominal traumas.
Pak J Med Res Jan ;44(3):130-3.

Aims: To evaluate the diagnostic value of ultra sonography in the diagnosis of blunt abdominal trauma. Setting/ Patients and Methods: Patients with blunt abdominal trauma referred to Shahid Rahnemoun and Afshar Hospitals of Yazd. Results: Sixty patients suffering from blunt abdominal trauma were seen. The mean age was 30.7 years, and accidents were the leading cause of trauma. Ultra sonography showed a sensitivity of 40% and specificity of 98.2% in the diagnosis of splenic rupture and a sensitivity of 83.3% and specificity of 77.1% in diagnosis of presence of fluid or blood in the abdomen. As very few patients had trauma to liver or kidney therefore, it was not possible to evaluate the diagnostic value of ultrasound in these injuries. Conclusion: Ultra sonography is a cost effective, quick and useful diagnostic tool for diagnosing splenic rupture and presence of blood or fluid in the abdominal cavity.
