Elevated Fibrinogen as a risk factor for coronary artery disease.
Ann Pak Inst Med Sci Jan ;1(1):12-4.

Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Amongst risk factors for CAD, a raised fibrinogen level has been lately incriminated. Design: A prospective, descriptive study. Aim: To evaluate the levels of fibrinogen in known cases of CAD and to compare them with a control population. Materials and Methods: A total of forty six patients of CAD and 48 apparently normal controls were evaluated clinically. Their plasma fibrinogen levels were evaluated and statistically compared. Results: Mean Plasma Fibrinogen levels were 258+/-63.4 mgldl (range 180-400) in disease group, and 222+/- 37.2 mgldl (range 158-294) in control group. P- value was 0.036 which is statistically significant. Conclusion: Plasma fibrinogen levels are positively associated with CAD in our study.
