I have used SPSS for windows for the past many years and I find it very usefull and easy to use program. The problem is that the software is very expensive. I don't know about the prices in Pakistan but here its quite expensive to even upgrade.

Well in Pakistan, this software is available in pirated CDs freely.

Not to condone piracy but that may be the older version of SPSS, because as of Version 9.0, program is tethered to your computer and before installing you have to call SPSS to obtain a special number. So even if you copy it to another CD, its not installable.

SPSS is a very useful tool for statistical analysis.I appreciate the role of college of physicains and surgeons, Pakistan for its mandatory workshops on research and dissertation writing, which enabled us to learn and use this tool.We have installed the version 8.0,which can be very easeily installed

The training which CPSP is giving to doctors is entirely basic one. Even after training, most the doctors still dont know about SPSS other than data entry. And even during data entry, most of the doctors do not know how to compute a variable. Instead of letting SPSS to calculate the calculated variable, they do themselves.

I agree that SPSS training provided by CPSP is very basic and very limited. However it has introduced the SPSS to the future specialists. Even in the Part II exam there is practical demonstration, compelling the trainees to know more about SPSS. The CD is provided by CPSP. The tutorial can be used for the learning purposes.STILL THERE IS INCREASING AWARENESS AMONG DOCTORS FOR SPSS AND STATISTICAL ANALYSIS.

I would be highly obliged if any one can guide me how to calculate p-value from clinical data.
Looking for the response.
Thanks.

Mr. Shafeez
p-value (significane) can be calculated using a lot of statistical formulas. In your study, select an appropriate formula first.
Basic knowledge about biostatistics is essential for that.

Dear Osama, i facilitate these CPSP workshops u r perfectly right, we deliberately keep these CPSP workshops very basic, our objective is just to tell a "path" and to remove phobia of RM, Biostats and Medical Writing, no one can be master in these three big subjects in 4 days! I volunteer myself for any problems of forum members/users, specially trainees.

Dr. Ahmed
Thank you very much for your voluntary help for the members. It would be indeed a great help. I have created a new forum area "Biomedical Research Problems" and any problems listed there will be mailed to you directly.
Thank you once again.

Dear Dr. Hameed
Leaving aside the ethical issues, SPSS Version 10 is now freely available in Pakistan. Most of us are using that version.

Hello all,
I aint sure if I'm allowed to post this here, but I was wondering about the structure of the files that the SPSS program uses to export it's data in.
We have created and are still upgrading our online Survey system and we want to add the possibility for our customers to export their content and data to an SPSS valid format.
Is anyone familiar with the structure of those .mdd files? Or is there an easier way to let SPSS import data? Maybe through XML?
Thanks.
