PakMediNet Discussion Forum : Biostatistics : Good Biostatistic books.
Dear Colleagues. Please guide me regarding good basic books available on learning biostatistics. Specially those readily available. I am a beginner and can't understand the computational jargon usually given in most standard books. So basically needs user friendly books. And if possible guide me regarding publishers or any renown book shop from where i can get it or hyperlink where i can trace it if free on line full text available. I'll be grateful. I live in Lahore.farhan

Dear Dr Farooq. I am just a new comer on this site. Only few days back got registered. Acutally these were your messages which encouraged me to explore all that what you suggested but unfortunately as you said all those links were already expired. But this is very appreciable effort on your end. I am sending you mail on address you wrote and of course i am interested in all such activities.I am amazed why people were not interested. This subject is in its infancy in pakistan and grossly neglected. Its learning and teaching is totally disorganised and erratic.Rather at most places does not exist in our country. And without knowing it, medical knowledge can't thrive. So every attempt in way of learning and teaching it should be encouraged. farhan

One thing i forgot to mention that i already have "high yield biostatistics" and "basic and clinical biostatistics". But at many points these books become very difficult to understand due to lot of mathematics involved. this is when you feel need for some further material or help. I feel this is very difficult subject at least in the beginging for people like me who has almost no or very weak basis in maths.

I have found "Primer of Biostatistics" by Stanton A. Glantz (ISBN # 0071447814) a good book for beginnners. It teaches basic biostatistics in a very friendly manner.
