Incidence is an epidemiological term, which means the number of new cases of a diseaese occurring in a defined population in a defined period of time. Incidence can be calculated by either following a defined population over a longer period of time or if the prevalene of a disease and its average duration is known. Since in Pakistan neither the catchment population of hospitals is defined, nor is there a proper referral system, prevalence and incidene of any diseas cannot be calculated from hospital studies in Pakistan. All we can get is the proportion or frequency of various disease.
